Project Summary
In keeping with a brief that required an Italian dining experience that could seamlessly transition to a bar and late night music venue, LGS honed in on their client’s future minded values to drive a concept balancing an Italo cosmic renaissance meets designed nostalgia.

Looking to Italian artistic visionaries to inform the general approach to space planning and detailing, we found a bond in the design philosophy of mid-century architect Carlo Scarpa, who rejected what was expected of him by excluding the classically ornate in favour of the cutting edge and futurist construction methods.

In parallel with this, Danielle Baldelli, a visionary DJ and producer that led the rise of the cosmic Italo disco sound from northern Italy in the 1980s, informed the approach towards the brief’s need for a late-night music ‘mode’.
Both Baldelli and Scarpa’s forward-thinking ethos and passion to evolve their crafts beyond the status quo — especially from within a country where history and tradition is everything — offered the perfect metaphor from which to reflect the values of the Leftovers Group into the Bambino dining experience.

From our initial meeting with Leftovers Group, we were acutely aware of their needs and scale of their ambition. Creating a space that delivered from an experience perspective, while also delivering on their financial objectives was of equal importance.
Design is just the medium by which we help Bambino thrive, experientially, culinarily and financially.

An efficient circulation path to and from the kitchen isolates around the dining space, separating the 10 meter long bar and feature wine wall that jostle for guest’s attention.
The bar is clad in a luxurious Italian-inspired palette of stained claret hued oak panels, champagne chrome and crimson- pigmented concrete, all framed by a muted-lemon oak panelled canopy that directs the eye towards to the beverage preparation
The wine wall, intended to improve on the traditionally ‘dry’ service method of navigating a novel length wine list, affords guests the option to select wine from the label’s visual cues

Beyond the restaurant and bar, a 70m2 rooftop terrace offers space for guests to catch their breath, with leafy views over District One that hush the bike and car horns that permeate through the Saigon soundscape.
Striped banquettes offer loungier, resort style seating options, allowing for closer proximity and engagement in great conversation.

Capping out the Bambino space is a 14 seat Private Dining Room. Casting an architectural spell over the restaurant’s central void, in a palette contrasting yet evoking the rest of Bambino, the VIP room is anchored by a custom ceiling lamp referencing the design language Carlo Scarpa gave to the world.
